In-House Meetup Event Held! Theme is “Let’s look at using general-purpose CAD software” JW beginner’s course

Hi, I’m Hashimoto from the IT Division.

On November 20, 2020 (Friday), we held a study session on “Jw-CAD,” a 2D general-purpose CAD software that is widely used in the construction industry.

The instructor was mrs.N, who studied architecture from the start and got a second-class architect license. He also works on-site doing surveys and CAD work in the survey group at Sugitec.

What is Jw-CAD?

It’s become a pretty standard software for folks in the construction industry and other fields. This software is great for drafting on a PC and is often used mainly for design.

Because it’s free software and anyone can use it, there are lots of users. Plus, there are lots of extensions (plug-ins) created by volunteers and a ton of descriptions of how to use them online.

One of the great things about free software is that there are lots of places online where you can find solutions to problems or get help with unclear issues.

A lot of our staff already use Jw-CAD for their day-to-day work, but some of them had never used the software before, and even if they had, they were keen to learn more about it by learning the basics.

From basic operation to convenient functions

In the lecture, the students who were new to the software learned the basics, from the most basic operations like drawing a line to the cursor commands that can help them work more efficiently.

Some staff members who don’t usually get to use specialized software had a bit of a rough start, but that’s normal. It’s something everyone goes through at first.

Mr. U is a great staff member who’s been with Jw for many years. He’s there to support his colleagues and keep an eye on them to make sure everything’s running smoothly. Specialized software can be tricky to get used to at first, but it’s pretty easy to pick up if you just give it a try and figure out how it works.

Summary

As this is a beginner’s class, we’re planning to hold another intermediate and advanced class to go a little further.

While the Engineering Department staff is usually out on the job site, there are times when it’s better to draw simple drawings by yourself. It’s a good idea to learn how to do this. Let’s use this as a chance to get to know the software better and make the most of it in our work.
