Hello, my name is H. and I am from the IT Division. One of the SDGs that we are working on is “quality education for all”.
We’ve been holding study sessions and technical seminars for a while now, but now that we’re working on the SDGs, we’ll be holding regular meetings in the form of casual meetups to further promote the SDGs, including staff members who are close to us and who normally work in different fields.
Purpose of the Meetup
The construction industry has a lot of different technologies and equipment. Some of our staff have been in construction for a long time, while others come from completely different fields (I’m one of them).
While each individual learns about the industry on their own, there aren’t many chances to get to know the engineering department and what they do, especially the technical side of things.
There are also folks in the engineering department who are still learning the ropes. It’s important to share with them how to use the machines and also the knowledge gained from experience.
Given the current situation, the goal of this project is to give staff members outside of the Engineering Department a leg up and to help improve quality by boosting technical skills for staff members in the Engineering Department.
The theme of this year’s meetup is “rebar exploration!
So, the topic of the study session was “rebar exploration,” which was a meetup involving staff from different departments.
To put it simply, a rebar survey is all about finding out where the rebar is inside the reinforced concrete. The survey can tell you the depth of the rebar (called cover thickness), where it is, which way it’s pointing, and even how many there are.
There are a few ways to look inside concrete, but we use a method called electromagnetic radar, which uses a rebar probe.
This is done by zapping the concrete with electromagnetic waves using a rebar probe and then catching the bounced waves from the rebar and other objects in the concrete.
The staff who’ve already used rebar learned a lot from teaching others, while the newbies got to grips with the basics and the more experienced ones got to see it in action. For those new to rebar exploration, it was a great chance to get together and learn about the principles and uses of rebar exploration.
Summary
In many cases, these specialised techniques are taught directly by senior technicians on-site or by taking part in workshops to learn the knowledge and use of these techniques.
We’ll keep having in-house meetups regularly to give staff who don’t usually go out to the field a better chance to share their skills and knowledge with colleagues in the same industry. This will help us work more efficiently and improve the quality of our work.
