Sugitec THE SDGs Action Card Game Cross”, a project to learn about the SDGs!

Hi, I’m H. and I’m from the IT Division.

Sugitec is working on the SDGs, and this time the staff in charge of SDGs introduced the SDGs card game to try it out with the team. They thought it would be a good way to learn more about how we can contribute to the SDGs.

The staff played an environmental learning game called “SDGs Action Card Game Cross.”

What is THE SDGs Action Card Game Cross

This SDGs card game was put together by volunteers from the Rebirth Project, Inc., who are working on social issues, and the Hiramoto Ryotaro Laboratory at the Kanazawa Institute of Technology, which is researching businesses that are tackling social issues.

In this card game
・How can we make more people aware of the SDGs?
・How to increase the number of actions to improve society?

There are two types of cards: There are two types of cards: trade-off cards that describe the SDGs goals and the issues that are traded off to achieve them, and resource cards that simply describe methods for solving the issues.

What are the rules?

Here’s one of the trade-off cards, but there’s a trade-off issue: “People in developed countries did business in developing countries to tackle poverty and achieve the SDGs’ goal of ‘End Poverty,’ but this started to cut jobs for those who aren’t eligible for support.”

It’s only natural that when you gain something, you lose something too. But how do you solve this problem? The following “Resource Cards” are the answer to this problem.

What can social networking sites do to solve the trade-off problem? The idea is to come up with some suggestions for.

The basic idea is that each player gets three resource cards, and then they come up with ideas for solutions to the problems on the trade-off cards that are presented.

For instance, there’s no clear answer to this idea, like using social media to post job openings. It’s important to come up with as many different ideas as possible.

We all did it

With these rules in mind, the Sugitec Kyoto team got together and split into teams to play this card game.

Some of the teams had to come up with some pretty outlandish combinations, and they each came up with ideas amidst their worries and excitement.

One other thing: I’ve found that the “excursion” idea generation method is a great way to get those creative juices flowing. To use this method, think of someone or something you know well. Write down everything you can think of that you associate with that person or thing. Then, link the words you’ve written to the project’s goal. This card game is similar to the excursion method.

Impressions and Summary

I was initially unsure of the benefits, but after trying it, I found it to be a very meaningful experience. It helped us all learn how to come up with ideas despite our own worries.
